Trauma Recovery Therapy

The Recovery Therapist™

Healing After Trauma Is Possible

Life after trauma can feel like living in fragments. One part of you may push forward, determined to keep going, while another remains anchored in the past, replaying memories and carrying feelings that seem impossible to release. You may swing between moments of overwhelm and moments of numbness, wondering if life will ever feel steady again.

This experience is more common than you might think. And most importantly, it is not permanent. With the right support, healing is possible.

I’m Vida Lartey, known as The Recovery Therapist™, and I specialise in trauma recovery therapy. My work is about helping people move from survival into recovery, guiding them to rebuild resilience, restore emotional balance, and rediscover a life that feels safe and whole.

What Trauma Recovery Therapy Means

When people hear the word “therapy,” they often imagine endless discussions about the past. While your story matters, trauma recovery therapy is about much more than talking. It is a process of teaching the mind and body that safety is possible again, and that the future does not have to be ruled by what happened before.

Trauma can echo long after an event is over. It can show up in the way we react to stress, the way we relate to others, and the way we experience our emotions. Recovery therapy gives you space to process these effects gently, while also learning practical tools to regulate your feelings, regain energy, and rebuild trust in yourself and in life.

This is not about erasing memories or pretending the past never happened. It is about learning how to live with more peace, more stability, and more freedom.

Trauma Recovery Therapy

Why Work With Me

I bring over two decades of experience in healthcare and emotional support, alongside specialist training in trauma, resilience, and hypnotherapy. My approach is trauma-informed, compassionate, and completely tailored to your needs.

Clients often tell me that what makes the difference is the sense of safety they feel. For many, therapy is the first place where they have been able to share without fear of judgement, without pressure to be “better,” and without having to hide how hard it has been. In that safety, healing becomes possible.

Sessions are flexible. I work online with people worldwide, in person in the UK and Ghana, and I also offer home visits in Greater London for those who need the added comfort of familiar surroundings. No matter the setting, the focus remains the same: creating space for recovery at your pace.

“Recovery is not about forgetting what happened, but about learning that your past does not have to define your future.” – Vida, The Recovery Therapist™

My Approach

Recovery is not a straight line, and I don’t expect you to arrive with all the answers. Some clients begin by wanting relief from overwhelming emotions, while others come searching for clarity or a stronger sense of resilience. Many simply know they cannot go on as things are, and that is enough to begin.

Together, we will take steady steps. This might mean exploring your story in a way that feels safe, introducing calming techniques for when emotions rise, or using guided therapeutic approaches such as hypnotherapy to work with the subconscious mind. Over time, these practices support you in finding balance, strengthening resilience, and reclaiming the sense that life belongs to you again.

Who I Work With

I support people from all walks of life who have experienced trauma or prolonged stress. For some, the difficulty stems from childhood experiences that continue to cast a shadow. For others, it may be the impact of grief, loss, or sudden change. Many come to me after years of pushing through, only to realise that surviving is not the same as recovering.

You do not have to know exactly what you need in order to begin. The only requirement is a willingness to take that first step and allow yourself to be supported.

What You Can Expect to Change

Every journey is unique, but there are some changes that clients often notice as recovery unfolds. Emotions begin to feel more manageable, no longer ruling daily life. Energy slowly returns, and with it, the ability to make choices that once felt impossible.

Relationships can improve as you learn to communicate and connect without the old weight of pain. Most importantly, many people begin to feel safer within themselves, a sense of grounding that allows them to live more freely.

These shifts rarely happen overnight, but with patience and the right guidance, they become the building blocks of lasting recovery.

About Me

My professional background is a foundation for the work I do, but it is the human connection that matters most. I hold an MA in Women and Child Abuse Studies, a Diploma in Clinical Hypnotherapy (with Distinction), and advanced training in trauma, emotional regulation, and mental health psychology. I am also a Clinical Nurse Practitioner and Safeguarding Practitioner with over 20 years of NHS and healthcare experience.

Since 2018, I have focused on providing therapy for trauma and recovery, combining my knowledge as a healthcare professional with my passion for helping people reclaim their lives. My ethos is simple: therapy should be safe, empowering, and centred on you.

Beginning Your Recovery Journey

Taking that first step can feel daunting. You may be unsure whether now is the right time, or whether therapy will truly make a difference. These worries are natural. What matters is allowing yourself the chance to explore what support could look like for you.

When you reach out, we will begin with a conversation — a chance to talk about your needs, your hopes, and what you want from therapy. From there, you can decide whether this feels like the right path. There is no pressure, only the opportunity to begin.

“Healing takes time, patience, and care — but every small step forward is proof that change is possible.” – Vida, The Recovery Therapist™

Frequently Asked Questions

What is trauma recovery therapy and how can it help me?

Trauma recovery therapy is a safe and structured way to heal from the lasting impact of traumatic experiences. Trauma doesn’t just live in memory, it can affect emotions, energy levels, relationships, and even how safe you feel in daily life. Through trauma recovery therapy, we work together to reduce the grip of the past, regulate overwhelming feelings, and gradually build resilience. The aim is not to erase what happened, but to help you live more freely without trauma ruling your present or your future.

Do I need to share all the details of my trauma to benefit from trauma recovery therapy?

Many people worry that they will have to go through every detail of their past in order for therapy to work. That isn’t the case. Trauma recovery therapy always moves at your pace, and you remain in control of what you share. The focus is on creating safety first, and on giving you the tools to manage emotions and build stability. Healing can happen without having to revisit every moment of the past.

How long does trauma recovery therapy usually take?

There is no fixed timeline because trauma recovery therapy is a deeply personal process. Some people notice positive shifts after just a few sessions, such as feeling calmer or more in control of emotions. For others, especially where trauma has been present for many years, therapy may be a longer journey. What matters most is finding a pace that feels sustainable for you, so that recovery is lasting rather than rushed.

I feel stuck, can trauma recovery therapy still help me?

Yes. Many people begin trauma recovery therapy feeling completely stuck, as though nothing will ever change. That sense of hopelessness is itself a symptom of trauma. With patience and consistent support, clients often notice that emotions become easier to manage, energy begins to return, and possibilities start to open up again. Trauma recovery therapy is designed to meet you where you are and help you move forward, even if you cannot see the path right now.

Can I access trauma recovery therapy online or do I need to come in person?

You can choose what works best for you. I offer trauma recovery therapy online for clients across the UK and internationally, as well as in-person sessions in the UK and Ghana. For those living in Greater London, I also provide home visits, making therapy accessible if travel feels difficult. Whether online or face to face, the focus is the same — creating a safe, compassionate space where recovery can begin.

Ready to Begin?

You’ve already taken the hardest step by searching for support. The next step is simply reaching out. Whether you’re looking for relief from overwhelming emotions, the strength to move forward, or a safe space to finally heal, I’m here to help.
